FERRARI PATENTS NEW STEERING TECHNOLOGY

Ferrari

Ferrari has patented a new steering system designed to improve accuracy. This new steering system aims to reduce inaccuracy and inconsistent feedback found in the existing steering setups. By doing so, Ferrari hopes to create future sports cars that steer with greater precision. The new system uses software to make adjustments for inconsistencies such as those found when turning the wheel at different angles from left to right. This software is suppose to calculate the angle and torque applied to the steering wheel, applying the necessary corrections to reduce “transmission error,” a term used to explain the delay between the drivers input on the wheel and response of the front wheels.

NIKI LAUDA EDITION FERRARI 458 UP FOR SALE

Niki Lauda, Ferrari, 458 Italia, Formula One

Last year, Edo Competition tasked Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalization program to create a one-off Ferrari 458 Italia that honored Formula One racing legend Niki Lauda. For some reason, Edo Competition has decided to sell this very unique vehicle less than 5 miles on the odometer! The custom 458 Italia comes with subtle accents inspired by the Formula One cars that Lauda drove while racing for Ferrari between 1974 and 1977. The white roof features an Italian flag, while the supercar sits on gold alloys along with white accents on the front splitter, side skirts and rear spoiler. On the inside, this special addition displays an Italian flag motif on the center console along with red stitching and carbon fiber trim. All of the special features on this limited edition one-off are purely cosmetic; the Niki Lauda Edition Ferrari 458 Italia packs the same naturally aspirated V8 engine found on the standard model. Edo Competition wants $385,000 for their limited edition Ferrari 458 Italia that pays tribute to Formula One legend Niki Lauda.

LAFERRARI FXX HARD AND SOFT TOP DUE IN 2015

Ferrari, LaFerrari, FXX

As previously stated in this blog, there have been rumors for some time that Ferrari was planning a track-only LaFerrari based FXX and a street-legal variant in convertible. As time passed, the rumor began to look more like fact as other evidence became available. What has remained a mystery is the question of when these two cars will become a reality. According to Car Magazine, Ferrari is expected to launch both vehicles in 2015.

According to Car Magazine, the Spyder FXX is going to be extremely limited with a production run consisting of approximately 50 vehicles and is expected to cost more than the LaFerrari Coupe, possibly costing twice as much.

The track-only version of the LaFerrari FXX will follow in the footsteps of the Enzo-based FXX with only 30 examples being made. These 30 examples will not only be very expensive, they will only be offered to loyal and longtime customers of Ferrari. The LaFerrari-based FXX track edition is expected to be around 1,050 horsepower and capable of delivering much faster performance times than the current LaFerrari.

The 6.3-liter V12 generates 800 horsepower with the electric motor bringing the total horsepower up to 950 hp before any modifications were made to the ECU. FERRARI 312PB OUT ON THE TRACK

1974 ended Ferrari’s involvement in prototype sports racing, making this 1972 Ferrari 312PB the last prototype racer to come out of Ferrari. The 1972 312PB has wins at some of the most prestigious races on both the European and American circuit to include Watkins Glen, the 6 Hour at Daytona, the Sebring and Nurburgring. Ex pro-skier Steven Read owns the last race car that Ferrari developed before they turned their focus entirely to Formula One. Petrolicious recently released video of Read taking his prototype out onto the track and it sounds amazing! Take a look at the video for yourself.

MOTOR TREND MAGAZINE TAKES THE LAFERRARI FOR TEST DRIVE

One would expect that the leading supercar to come out of Maranello, the LaFerrari, would handle excellently on the track and it does. What there is less information on is how it handles on the road. One of the reasons for this is the fact that Ferrari is not letting anyone review the car. Very few people in the industry have been given a chance to take Ferrari’s first hybrid out on the open road. Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago was granted permission by Ferrari to do so for the latest edition of Ignition, Lago went on to say that the LaFerrari may just be the best road car he has ever driven.

FERRARI 375-PLUS SOLD FOR $18.3 MILLION

Ferrari, 375-Plus

An ultra rare example of a 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus recently sold at the Bonhams Auction for a stunning $18.3 million. The abnormally high auction bid may be connected to this particular car’s racing history. Jose Froilan Gonzalez drove this 375-Plus to victory at Silverstone in 1954; the sports car went on to run at the Le Mans and the Mille Miglia. It is not uncommon for a 1950’s era racer to pull a high six figure or low seven figure return at auction, however this particular example now joins a very small group of cars that have sold for over $10 million. Current auction trends suggest that we should expect more vintage Ferraris to hit the eight figure mark in the future.

The Ferrari 375-Plus variant included an additional 400 cc, increasing the size of the then powerful V-12 to 4.9-liters. Each 375-Plus came with body upgrades from Carrozzeria Pinin Farina and was only available at the end of the Ferrari 375 production run.

FIRST LAFERRARI DELIVERED TO THE NORTH AMERICA

Ferrari Festival, Ferrari, LaFerrari

The rest of the world has been able to enjoy Ferrari’s new supercar, the LaFerrari for several months now, while those of us in America have only been able to view the 963 horsepower hybrid online. That is, until now, the first LaFerrari to be delivered to North America has finally arrived! Before delivery took place, Ferrari held a special track session at Mount-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, during the Mount-Tremblant Ferrari festival.

Out of the 499 units that will be produced, 120 of them are making their way to the North America. There is no word yet on when the first LaFerrari will be delivered to the United States, however, the Canadian model is dressed in a stunning shade of red. Those who look close will notice that the North American example of the LaFerrari has been outfitted with side markers, this is due to government regulations requiring side markers to be on all vehicles in the United States and Canada.

Ferrari was not shy about announcing the arrival of the first LaFerrari in Canada, Ferrari took to twitter and YouTube posting video of the supercar turning laps at the Ferrari Festival.

610 HORSEPOWER TWIN-TURBO FERRARI 348 CHALLENGE

The Ferrari 348 Challenge was just not that popular. Even when it was new, other products from the prancing horse just outclassed the 348 in both performance and appeal. Stacey Slead solved this issue by teaming up with Steve Maxwell of Maxwell’s Exotic Car service in California, together they took #10 of just 32 that were made that year and transformed the 355 Challenge into a 3.4-liter V8 twin-turbo capable of delivering 610 horsepower! Maxwell also fitted the 355 Challenge with a six-speed gearbox taken from a 355 Challenge.

KIETH RICHARDS FERRARI DINO TO HIT AUCTION BLOCK

Kieth Richards, Ferrari, Dino

Legendary rocker and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards’s 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT was recently auctioned by Coys Auciton House. Richards purchased the Dino 246GT in 1972, brought it to the United Kingdom in 1975 and drove it until 1986. In 14 years of ownership, Richards managed to put a total of 25,000 miles on this silver Ferrari. After Richards’s ownership, the Dino 264GT made its way into a private Japanese collection. Finished in Argento silver with a black leather interior and Cromodoro alloys, the mid-engine Dino is powered by a 2.4-liter V6.

Coys Managing Partner, Chris Routledge, says “A Dino offered at no reserve is rare enough in itself and would make this is a highly desirable and collectible item in its own right, but when one adds to this proven long-term ownership by rock and roll aristocracy, the Keith Richards’s car has to be the ultimate Dino and will surely give any car collector and rock enthusiast a great “Satisfaction”!

LAFERRARI IN SILVER

Ferrari, LaFerrari, Maranello, BND Supercars

Initially, Ferrari insisted that the newest flagship supercar of the fleet would only be produced in red, black and yellow. Recently several of these limited-edition hybrids have been seen in other colors to include this LaFerrari in silver that was spotted leaving Maranello courtesy of BND- Supercars. I personally like it! The silver compliments the aggressive body styling quite nicely, proving once again that this car could be painted any color and look spectacular.

NOVITEC-ROSSO FERRARI FF IN RED CHROME

Ferrari FF, Ferrari, Novitec-Rosso

The car-wrap industry continues to raise the bar when it comes to creating new finishes and exciting color combinations. As the trend of wrapping supercars becomes more popular versus the standard option of repainting, wealthy car owners and celebrities alike are continuously hunting for new paint schemes and outrageous color combinations. Print Tech Premium Wrapping out of Munich, Germany, recently took a Novitec-Rosso Ferrari FF and gave it a red chrome coating off-set brilliantly by a stunning Braille stripe (matte black stripe inside a gloss black stripe). Print Tech also gave the Ferrari FF a gloss black roof and a complete set of gloss black alloys that really make this red chrome Ferrari FF shine.
